A new opportunity has arisen for a COMAH Specialist with a leading Oil and Gas Operator for a 9 month contract role.

The job-holder must be able to demonstrate experience in providing support to an operational site and will work closely with the Companys Operations group to ensure delivery of the COMAH report 5 yearly review. The job-holder will be required to travel to the Shetland Gas Plant as part of their duties.


§Responsible for providing safety engineering advice to departments.
§Provide technical guidance regarding working practice/timescale of work carried out for contracted services.
§Responsible for develop specifications, terms of reference and scopes of work for specific safety engineering studies for both internal and external contractors/specialists.
§Responsible for the review and management of specialist studies carried out by internal/external consultants.
§Coach, train and support colleagues in specific areas of expertise.
§Responsible for writing procedures, specifications, memos and technical reports relating to safety engineering.
§Liaise/communicate with external stakeholders where required.
§Provide advice to ensure relevant safety engineering statutory reporting requirements are carried out.
§Organise, facilitate or participate in HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments and other safety engineering reviews.
§Proactively identify safety engineering issues/problems to be addressed and by working closely with other disciplines, identify solutions.
§Proactively audit and take part in assurance activities relating to MAH management.
§Advise relevant departments of requirements to comply with legislation, corporate/group standards & guidance.
§Liaise and communicate with specialists in external agencies (e.g. HSE).
§Perform peer review of job specific deliverables and internal SHE documents.
§Represent Safety Engineering in modification reviews.

§Relevant and appropriate major accident risk industry experience >10 years (oil and gas / chemical / nuclear, etc).
§Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, and a Chartered Engineer or equivalent or working towards chartership.
§Full medical and training certification required to enable offshore visits.
§Can demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of COMAH and has experience of writing COMAH reports.
§Can demonstrate comprehensive safety engineering related knowledge of current and emerging UK and EU regulatory requirements and oil and gas industry trends.
§Thorough knowledge of risk assessment techniques and experience of organising and where appropriate, facilitating/chairing HAZOP, HAZID, safety engineering risk assessments and reviews.
§Can demonstrate a working knowledge of reliability/availability techniques and their application in risk assessments.
§Demonstrate a good working knowledge of plant design principles and standards as well as inherently safer design principles.
§Commitment to develop technical expertise through attending external courses and conferences, and continual self-learning.
§Can demonstrate audit and assurance activity capability in MAH management.
§Experience of mentoring and coaching individuals.
§Delivering clear concise safety engineering information both written and verbal to stakeholders.
