Our client is currently recruiting for an Applications Engineering Supervisor on a permanent basis in Aberdeen.

PURPOSE:
The development and understanding of Product Applications and their use by customers.
To provide a supervisory role in support of the Managing Director in terms of HR elements, reporting and daily Application Engineering activities.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:
Weekly/Monthly review with Managing Director

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
Work distribution, working patterns, absence management, go to person for Application Engineering.

COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

ENTRY LEVEL:
Certificate in Team Leading or relevant experience.
Technical Degree or HND in Electronics / Electrical Engineering.

FULLY COMPETENT:
Certificate in Management (or equivalent)

EXPERIENCE:

ENTRY LEVEL:
Minimum of 2 year experience in the work area, or previous supervisory experience.
An Understanding of products and their use.
Good basic skills in computer programs/use. Good written verbal & numeracy skills.
Engineering aptitude.

FULLY COMPETENT:
Advanced Understanding of the use of products.
Ability to carry out high level customer trials and interface with customers at all levels both managerial and technical.

SPECIALIST SKILLS:

ENTRY LEVEL:
Ability and willingness to travel to customers premises and test sites.

FULLY COMPETENT:
Comprehensive knowledge of the Companys product range and its use.
Ability to analyse and rectify issues in the field.
Coordinate and plan own and others work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning:
Set short-term work schedule
Review load against capacity
Assign resource as required to Application Engineers
Plan medium-term work schedule
Review forecast quarterly application engineering support requirements with Sales team
Plan staffing levels / hours accordingly to complete work

Staff Development / Training:
Define and maintain skill matrices
Ensure sufficient multi-skilling of team for maximum business flexibility and to cover absences
Training
Define training plans
Submit training budget proposals with justification to Managing Director for review / approval
Ensure training is completed as planned
Carry out Performance Reviews
Set personal objectives
Monitor and review performance against objectives for Application Engineers

New Product Introduction:
Team Participation in design reviews
Assign Application Engineer as Project Representative
Consider product application for broad range of customers

Product Application:
Assist in the development of New Products.
Carry out Customer visits from own initiative and in support of sales visits.
Develop Application testing procedures for new or planned sensors.
Undertake Product Application demonstration/tests with Customers.
Train staff in applications of New Products.
Assist with documentation of New Products.
Create and Capture Company Knowledge and understanding of Industry requirements and Applications.
Coordinate Alpha and Beta testing of new Products with Design Engineers.

Customer Demonstrations/Support:
Coordinate and Plan Customer/Exhibition Demonstrations.
Support Sales team with Customer Demonstrations and Technical Assistance.
Carry out demonstrations at Customer premises, Offices or in the Field.
Liaise with customer contacts via telephone and email giving technical support.
Under taking the responsibility of Duty On call phone as part of group rota.

Training
Provide Training of New Products to other Application Engineers.
Provide Training of New Products to overseas offices and sales distributors and agents.

General:
Hold Team meetings to communicate team objectives and progress (at least monthly).
In communication with the Managing Director authorise absences (holidays, appointments).
In communication with the Managing Director approve any overtime/disturbance allowances.

Management System Compliance:
Ensure that all Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
Ensure that standards of housekeeping are maintained to ensure a safe and productive working environment.
Ensure that Quality procedures are adhered to and appropriate quality records are maintained.
Ensure that hazardous situations that may lead to a Health and Safety, Quality or Environmental loss are reported promptly and appropriately.
